BBNG & Little Dragon together is just as good as you might imagine. (audio)
I’ve been starving for the last few years since the release of IV (my album of 2016). The trickle of new music from this talented quartet has all but slowed to a crawl, with only last year’s Late Night Moods compilation and “Confessions Pt. III” being the only real music that we’ve heard from them since their 2016 opus. So while this new track with Little Dragon entitled “Tried” might not exactly signal that a new album is on the way, at this point, I’ll take what I can get.
In many ways, this feels like a continuation of the softer, airier side that they explored on “In Your Eyes” from IV; breathy, beautiful, vocals courtesy of Little Dragon’s lead singer Yukimi Nagano, with a float-y arrangement to complement everything perfectly. But where the track truly excels is in its subtly; the way that the instruments come in ever so quietly, only to leave just as quietly (it’s highly recommended that you listen to this track multiple times, with a solid set of headphones). It also helps that this song is pretty catchy as well too, thanks to a solid chorus from both the band and Nagano. At first, I wasn’t sure I was going to list this as best new music, but after multiple listens, I don’t think I have much of a choice. Here’s hoping though this is a sign of more new music to come!
