Homeboy Sandman and Edan make a compelling case for you to get off the internet (video)
Despite the sort of head-scratching nature of the title of this song, Edan (one of my favorite DJs/producers/MCs) and Homeboy Sandman have still managed to make one of the most entertaining hip-hop tracks I’ve heard in awhile. Most of that has to do with Edan’s absolutely insane production which manages to creatively jam in just about every single hip-hop production cliche from the 80’s and 90’s all together into one track including some boom-bap, lots of loud sample stabs, the occasional jazz lick, and even some electro for good measure. It’s a wild, out of control beat but I’d expect nothing less from one of favorite underrated producers. On the MC end of things, Homeboy goes at his verses with more vitriol than I think I’ve ever heard from the man, going after pretty much every single internet target you could possibly imagine. Sounding more like a rant than your typical rap verse, it doesn’t always quite mesh that well with instrumental but he still manages throw in a few clever lines to keep your attention. And speaking of keeping your attention, it should be said that a good portion of this song’s entertainment value comes from its excellent, over the top video. No spoilers here though; just watch and enjoy.
Homebody Sandman & Edan’s collaborative album Humble Pi is out on Stones Throw on October 26th.
