Yet another crazy good jazz track from 2018! (audio)
Did I just not get the memo? Because unbeknownst to me, it seems like jazz, and I don’t mean light, coffee shop, pleasant background music “jazz”, seems like it’s been making a bit of a come back as of late. Groups like Kaamal Williams, Joe Armon-Jones, Kamasi Washington, and a bunch of others whose names aren’t coming to me right now are all killing it right now. Seriously, I would say if there has been one constant for me this year, almost all of the most exciting releases this year have been new jazz artists. And even a random click on an artist on Soundcloud I know nothing about has led me yet again to another excellent jazz artist by the name of Reginald Chapman!
On the track “You Go To My Head”, things kick off with some shuffle-heavy drums and a blast of trombone, before giving way to Sam Reed with an excellent retro-sounding, jazz vocalist performance. After that we head into some solo territory, allowing for some skilled and tasteful trombone and keyboard solos before all coming back together again in the end for a truly excellent third act. Seriously good stuff here and I can’t wait to hear what else the album has in store.
