A promising new track from Kamaal Williams’ new album (video)
Considering I just recently talked about the album that came out before this one, it seems only appropriate that I talk about “Salaam”, a track from Kamaal William’s new album, The Return. And based all the criticisms I had for that album, this really does seem like a step in the right direction. On this track, the track starts off a pretty straight forward, jazzy, lurch-y groove, before it speeds off in a more frantic, uptempo track by the end. The drums start off simple enough before eventually getting more complex and dynamic. The keys and synths sound much more colorful, rubbery, and full of life. And despite the fact that the track sort of cuts off a bit early before it really starts getting good, it really feels like there’s a lot of promise with this track. If anything, it definitely makes me curious to hear what else they explore on the rest of the song, and the entire album for sure.
Kamaal Williams’ The Return is out now on Black Focus Records in all formats.
