This new Potatohead People album is shaping up to be something special (audio)
Among the many albums I’m looking forward to is Potatohead People’s Nick & Astro’s Guide To The Galaxy. Just when I thought I was getting burnt out on jazzy, soulful, mellow hip-hop albums (last year’s Moonchild album has to be one of the biggest disappointments of the year for me), these guys manage to do it just different enough dismissing them outright. Actually, this latest track with J Dilla’s little brother Illa J and Moka Only is another highlight from a very promising sounding album. Both rappers deliver solid verses about being left by their girls and fit the instrumental perfectly. But the real start of the show here is the music itself. File it under simple but effective: the light neo-soul/jazz keys, the gentile, subtle guitar, and the drums that give the track the just the right amount of bump and head nod. Here’s hoping they can keep their sound fresh and interesting over the course of entire album but from what I’ve heard so far, I definitely think I can get down with this.
