My prayers have finally been answered. (video)

I’ve been saying for years that Eminem should just a track that was him straight spitting. No trying to appeal to the mainstream; just give him some boom bap and let him rip. And with this guest feature on this track “Caterpillar” from Royce da 5’9″‘s latest album, Book of Ryan, Em does exactly that. Simply put, this is the best Em has sounded since “Rap God”, delivering one his most verbose, intricate, vicious, braggadocious, and overall, just jaw-dropping verses yet. This alone makes for it worth the price of entry since I’ve been hungry for this kind of music from Em for years. All I can say is here’s hoping he makes an album of shit like this.

But to focus solely on Emimen’s contribution is to short side Royce da 5’9″, one of the few MCs out there who I think can go toe-to-toe/line-for-line with Em (something he proved all the way back in the day with his Shady CXVPHER freestyle from 2014). Taking center stage with two excellent braggy but personal verses of his own, Royce flows effortless over this ominous, but funky boom bap instrumental. Honestly, my only complaint is the hook is a bit weak but that doesn’t stop this from being some of the best hip-hop I’ve heard since last year’s RSXGLD. Funny how they’re both from Detroit!

Royce da 5’9″‘s Book of Ryan is out now.
