Floating Points and Co. hit us with one more “Reflective” piece in conjunction with the release of their new album (video)
Considering this video came out back in May, I think it’s pretty safe to say that I’m a bit late to the party on this one. Then again, the release of this album/video/documentary of Floating Points and Co. playing brand music under the Mojave Desert sky just came out recently, so I’ll call myself “fashionably late” on this one.
On this track “Kelso Dunes”, Floating Points don’t deviate far from their first preview track from the album (which you can go back and listen/watch here), in that it’s still atmospheric post-rock with little touches of jazz and electronic music. But like “Silurian Blue”, it’s not so much about them stretching the boundaries of their sound but refining it to make the most beautiful and affecting music possible. Not to mention that Sam Sheppard (the brains behind the band) and Co. sound tighter than ever on this recording. This album keeps slipping off my radar but I’ll definitely be picking this one up in the future.
