They’re baaaaaack (audio)
Finally, our first taste of Run the Jewel 3, the rap duo responsible for some of the most rewindable lines in recent hip-hop history. So, how does “Talk To Me” stack up in comparison to tracks from the first two albums? Honestly, I’m a bit underwhelmed at the moment. It’s got pretty much all the staples of RTJ2; loud, industrial, half-time beats, and two very pissed off rappers, with Killer Mike being the more upfront and direct, and El-P being the more cryptic one. But before you jam your pitchforks into me, please understand there’s a big difference between “underwhelmed” and “bad”, and this song is by no means bad at all. It’s just not the massive leap forward that I got from tracks like “Close Your Eyes”, “Lie, Cheat, Steal” and “All Respect Due” that I was looking for. But I’ll save the final verdict for when the album comes out (which is supposedly still due out this year but has yet to be officially announced).
