Mark de Clive-Lowe takes on some classic Blue Note tracks that’s surprisingly fresher than you might think (audio)
Much like I said about Mndsgn, I’ve known about the Mark de Clive-Lowe name for awhile now, but I really didn’t pay him much attention as I always assumed he made bland, coffee shop house music. Luckily after that 14KT, Stro Elliot collaboration (check it here), I decided to keep an eye out for his music and he definitely didn’t disappoint here. Now using old Blue Note Records as a sampling source is nothing new by any stretch; and indeed a lot of classic samples make it into the mix tape. However, it does throughout the entire mix do some clever mashups of songs, along with augmenting the samples with his on keyboard playing. Overall, there’s enough clever twists and turns here that it never feels by the numbers and this absolutely worth a download. Hopefully some of the fruits of this labor will make it onto a release because of the tracks here are absolute gold!
