THE DAILY GRIND: Various Artists – Rubble Kings (Original Music Inspired By The Documentary)

Songs inspired by the documentary about NYC gangs and their influence in the early development in hip-hop. Featuring the likes of Run The Jewels, Ghostface Killah and more!(download link below)

It’s pretty hard to say no to free music. It also helps when this compilation is filled with artists like Run The Jewels, Ghostface Killah, Bun B, Tunde Adebimpe from TV On The Radio, and eXquire, all lovingly orchestrated by producer/multi-instrumentalist, Little Shalimar. As the artwork might suggest, this is not easy listening; most of songs having a hard, distorted funk edge that are not all that dissimilar to EL-P’s own production (which makes sense since Little Shalimar also helped produce some Run The Jewels track). If you’re a fan of any of the artists listed above, definitely pick this up.

Check out the trailer for the documentary that inspired the album here! The documentary talks about 70s New York gang culture and how out of the violence, hip-hop was born (in case you didn’t know that).
